The Wee Room

The Wee Room, Fogo Nursery School

The Wee Room provides a gentle introduction to nursery for the youngest of our children, with the emphasis very much on play.

The children can begin to learn the basic social skills of interacting with others, sharing and playing together. There is a wide variety of toys to play with, together with dressing-up clothes, a sand table and a playhouse. Children get the chance to do craftwork such as painting, drawing, gluing and play dough, as well as simple singing and dancing, games and gym. There is also a quiet corner for reading stories.

There is one playleader in the Wee Room who is specially trained in the needs of the youngest children. She is assisted in each session by a parent helper on a rota basis.

The cost of each session is currently £4.00 and you are required to provide a suitable snack for your child to have during the session.

The Wee Room is open at the same times as the Big room, with the exception of Wednesdays when there is no session. Although most parents find that their children benefit from attending two sessions a week, children usually begin with one session per week and then move up to two sessions when settled.

Your child can start in the Wee Room when he /she reach 2 years of age. We have no requirement that your child is potty/toilet-trained - in fact, the Wee room is equipped with a designated nappy-changing area.

The children in the Wee Room have the opportunity to get to know the staff and children of the Big Room through Nursery outings, Christmas events and other informal sessions, which helps them when it is time for them to make the transition through to the Big Room. This usually takes place when the child reaches 3 years of age, but the Wee Room playleader is well-placed to advise you when your child is ready to move through.
